A pioneer in the field of minimally invasive spine surgery (MISS), John C. Chiu, MD, guides the California Spine Institute Medical Center in Thousand Oaks. As director of neurosurgery, he has engaged with thousands of patients with back pain in offering leading edge-treatment. John C. Chiu, MD, and his staff seamlessly combine holistic and traditional medicine with self-healing practices and physical therapy. He also employs the latest laser thermodiskoplasty technologies in obtaining lasting results.
Dr. Chiu began his career with a focus on microspine and micro vascular neurosurgery procedures and subsequently transitioned to his current focus on endoscopic and MISS techniques. Among the areas he has helped advance are telesurgery and robotic surgery. His tissue modulation approaches extend beyond laser technologies and include bipolar and radiofrequency techniques.
Respected in his professional community, Dr. Chiu is founding chairman of the American Academy of Minimally Invasive Spinal Surgery and Medicine. He co-edited the 2000 and 2005 editions of Practice of Minimally Invasive Spinal Technique. Additionally, he is founding chairman of the Internet Journal of Minimally Invasive Spinal Technology.
